troubles with hypertech chip addressing?

Post by rjnelson1975 »

I am trying to download the bin for my hypertech chip (27256-25). I have a 1988 1227165 ecm. Tried to get the bin thru tunerpro v5 witch works fine but the graphs are all zero's. Tried the 27c128 trick but then the graphs are all 89.65. The file size with the 27c256 is 32 kb and the 27c128 is 4 kb. Any ideas?? Address issue??

the 27C128 setting should produce a 16KB file. sounds like the addressing was incorrect when it was read.

I finally got the bin downloaded with the 27c128 id and chip address 000000 003FFF and buffer 000000 003FFF, but the graph info is all over the place. The 3d graphs are all spiked. Something has to be wrong with the address or xdf??? The chip is a 27256, should the file size be 32k or 16k?

for the 86-89 TPI MAF cars, GM did some odd stuff pretty often, like using 16KB BINs on 32KB PROMs, which sounds like something you've run across.

it sounds like you might have the wrong XDF, assuming the BIN was read correctly.

What xdf's should I try with the 16k bin file?

32, 32B, or 6E. can't say for certain based on the HT part number.

None of those work. Any other suggestions?

My hypertech chip has two chips that are stacked on top of one another. Could this cause a problem, or should I unsolder the top chip (27256) and try reading the bin that way? I have been using the HDR1 adapter from moates to read the chip so far. I tried emulating with the bin off of the hypertech chip and all I get is limp home mode using the gr1 adapter from moates also. Seems like what ever I try (different bins, addresses, etc..) all I get is limp home mode. Should I break out the soldering iron??

No, I don't know what the bottom chip is. It is a smaller chip and is directly under the 27256. I also seems that the there is nothing going to the other half of the memcal socket. These chips must be tied together somehow?? I am getting a different memcal off of ebay with a custom program and a programable chip. Maybe that will be something I can work with. I think this hypertech setup is just not going to let me in.
