Splitting stacked bin files?

Post by Turbo1dr »

First let me say you have a great editing program! Thanks! Well worth the price.

I just bought a Syclone that has a 16 program chip and need to change some settings. I have read the chip (AM29F040) with PP2 and saved it. It's a 512k file. Is there a way to split this into individual bins and save them each for editing? If I understand correctly, if you already have the individual bin files you can split them but I do not. If I load the 512k file I see a bunch of zeros in the graphs. I just need to extract one 16k file from this group of bins.

I'd do this by using a hex editor (eg HDD HexEditor) and deleting the parts of the binary file you don't want, then 'Save As' the reduced binary.

Sure is. Open the bin stacker (open tunerPro then hit F5). Note the bin splitting functionality in addition to the stacking functionality.

To work it:

1) Select "Split"
2) Chip size: 512kb
3) Bin size: 32kb
4) block size: 32kb
5) Select the file to which you'd like to save each of the 16 bins
6) Select the previously stacked source bin
7) Click the "split" button.

You're done! You now have 16 individual bins.

Mangus,

I've tried to register TunerPro RT but PayPal keeps asking me to log in (which I've already done). Give me an e-mail address where I can send the payment without using the link provided within TunerPro.

Thanks.

I haven't received the product key yet for RT version. Is there a delay I should expect?

Thanks!

Thanks.

Another question: I own a 90 Chevy TBI 5.7 truck I'd like to try to burn a chip for. Is there one specific place where I can get different XDF files?

For the 90 5.7, you most likely have a 122747 ECM running $42 code mask. there are a couple of ECU files out there that can be imported into the XDF file format using TunerPro.

Here's one:

http://www.supportfitness.com/mark/tune ... 7-mine.ecu

Download it and go to the following menu: XDF->Import->ECU and browse to the file.

Finally getting around to splitting a 512k bin from a Syclone. I have a friend with a 16 position chip he and I want to modify. But to do so I need to split it into individual bins. I read his chip using Pocket Programmer 2 with the software provided with it and saved it. Using the method in your post here's what's happening:

1) Select "Split" Done that.
2) Chip size: 512kb Done that.
3) Bin size: 32kb Done that.
4) block size: 32kb Done that.
5) Select the file to which you'd like to save each of the 16 bins I assume this the "Input File" which would be the file I want split?
6) Select the previously stacked source bin I do not have a previously stacked bin using TunerPro.
7) Click the "split" button. Does nothing. Files are not saved or listed in the "bin path"

This has to be too simple for my complex mind to figure out...lol

5) No, each individual (16) output bin in the table of outputs
6) The 512kb of data you read from the chip contains your 16 stacked bins.
7) Do 5 & 6, then click split.

Also note the help file included with TunerPro (help menu).

I must be the biggest dummy because I'm totally confused of how it works. Here's more....

Number 5. There's nothing to select in the list as you can see in the picture. When I load the 512k file to the "Input File" none of the 16 files appear in the list below? Am I suppose to see 16 numbered/lettered files in the "output file/Bin Path" list then hit split or am I suppose to name each of the files then hit split.

This is what I see after browsing to the "Input File":

OK, let's take a step back here. What are we trying to do?

We're trying to take a single file and split it into 16 files.

How do we do that? By selecting the input file, then selecting 16 different files to output to.

How do we select the input file? By clickiing "browse" on the line that says "input file".

How do we select the 16 output files?

By clicking the "browse" cell on each of the 16 lines in the table OR by typing in a full path (c:\mybin1.bin) on each row of the table in the "bin path" column.

Finally, how do we make the software do the work of splitting the big file into 16 little flies?

By clicking the "Split" button.

How's that?

Thanks for the detailed info. Maybe you can integrate how to split bins into the "Help" section within TunerPro.

That's where the confusing part was. I needed to name each of the files being saved after I hit the browse button. I just assumed when I loaded the 512k file, the program would automatically list each of the 16 bins in the columns. Then (after hitting split) I thought I'd get a pop-up window asking where I'd like them all to be saved.

When splitting bins, if there was a "save bin as" button where the "browse" button is it wouldn't be as confusing.

Again, thanks for the detailed info. I know you had to be getting pissed. :P
