Hot key for data record start and stop

My laptop has one of those lousy eraser mouses and it is a pain to manuver if you can even see the pointer in the sunlight.

Sometimes I want to record snipits of data and it can not be done easily.

I use to use craig motes software and he had a single key I think it was the "L" key which turned on record and off.

What would be a great feature would allow you to check a box which engagues the hot key, like the space bar (Nice and Big) so this way it is easy to tap when the laptop is sitting on the passenger seat. Also what would be nice is if this function was implemented that there was an auto naming routine that maybe just inserted the day time stamp so you would not have to enter a name manually all the time before the next record.

So in essence, set hot key on, then when ready to record tap space bar, when done recording tap space bar. Auto names file, ready for next data record etc.
