Using a USB Serial port adapter

Post by chrome_ashes »

I'm trying to get TunerPro working with a newer computer that does not have a serial port. I bought a USB/Serial port adapter and cannot get it to work. TP connects to the PCM, but does not receive any data. All I get is error packets.

Has anyone had any luck with this setup?? Are there any tricks I should know about?

What hardware are you attaching to the adapter? Emulator? ALDL cable?

If ALDL, there are a couple serial->USB adapters taht can't handle being opened at 8192 baud.

If doing 160 baud logging with a serial->USB adapter, you'll have to wait until TunerPro 4.0, as USB adapters require the port to be opened at 4800 baud instead of 2400 baud. You can certainly use WinALDL in the interim. It should work fine.

I'm using an ALDL cable that I have used on an older laptop that had a serial port. I want to quit using the older one and move everything to my newer one. I purchased an IO Gear usb-serial port adapter, but I'm guessing it's one of the ones that doesn't work.

Do you know anything about Eiger Labs serial port PCMCIA cards?
