anyone use a usb-serial converter?

Post by HarpSeal1 »

I got a new laptop, er netbook actually and of course no serial ports. I have a usb to serial converter with the prolific chipset and can't get the datalogging to connect. The interface cable works fine with my other laptop that has a serial port. The converter is sitting on com port 1.

Any ideas?

Yes the prolific is no go. Tested that one myself. Went to the keyspan adapter and problem solved!

Ahh damn. I started having doubts about that adapter when it had no voltage on its power pins. Oh well, yesterday my friend gave me his old laptop from 1998. Ive almost got it ready for datalogging. Optical drive was bad and it had no network card so i had to get the hard drive out and slave it to my desktop. Oh well it should work..

But that thing is enormous. So ill get one of those other USB adapters so i can use this netbook I have. Thanks a TON for your reply!!
