Blue Screen O death after install

Installing TunerProRT onto a friends laptop, and after installation I run TunerProRT, and windows gives me a blue screen, and immediately restarts.

The computer in question is a WinXP Home Version 2002, SP2) Compaq, AMD 1Ghz Duron Proc, with 498mb RAM (Per right click on my computer). Initially I figured it just needed a complete reload, however without a good functioning CD drive it's hard to get that done. Ultimately I'd like to be able to load a service pack, or framework and get it to work without a full reload.

The other item of interest is that TunerPro works fine, but RT will crash the machine every time.

I'm currently running the same version of RT on my laptop which is a slightly newer Acer, with WinXP Home AMD Turion, and 1GB ram.

I've done some searching around here, and can't find anything that relates to the blue screen, or anyway to fix it. I'm hoping I can find some help here, on something I've either overlooked, or completely missed.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Maybe I have a service turned off that needs to be on, or the other way around?

Perhaps I'm missing a .dll file?

Lots of views no replys.....

I got an external CD drive last night to try and reload windows, with no luck. Can't boot from USB on this machine

Anyone have ANY thoughts at all.

This is almost certainly a driver issue, and probably USB or COM related. BSOD (blue screen of death) indicates that code is doing something naughty in kernel mode.

Any suggestions on how to fix it? Reload all drivers perhaps for this machine?

Not that I am aware of. Well nothing special anyway that I am aware of. It's not my machine, so I'll have to do some investigating.

I tried disabling the USB root hub in Device manager, and it still crashed

Just booted the machine up in Safe Mode.....RT opens up and runs just fine, however I'm going to guess it won't connect to much of anything since Safe Mode doesn't load all the drivers.

We're definately on the right track.

Is there a place where I can find what drivers are loading at startup, and start removing them one at a time until it no longer crashes? Of course once to that point I will have to check functionality with the ALDL communication, and communication with the Ostrich in the truck.

Is there CD/DVD burning software installed? I've heard of one instance where such software interfered with the COM drivers. Outside of that, you can start windows with logging via the F8 at startup (same method you used to get it into safe mode).

Some initial success

Managed to get a copy of XP Pro finally loaded on the machine.

TunerProRT is working on it currently.

I'm in the process of updating the Audio, and Video drivers to make sure the system is running with acceptable performance. If it continues to work well, I'll cruise over to buddies house tonight to test it as far as communicating with a Typhoon, and an Ostrich.

Everyone cross your fingers, It's only taken me two months to get this done.
