5.3L 12200411 Tune for 1990 YJ

Post by Yohan1979 »

Hi All,

Still new to this area, but I've just connected with my PCM using Dimented24x7's LS1 Flash tool and my shiny new AVT 852-002 rev L cable.

I'm starting this thread to capture learning (and seek help) as we work through our first attempt at tuning with TPRT...and help the next DIY'er starting from square one.

Here's our general build thread over on JeepForum.

Here's another thread where we're attempting to sort out xdf's for the unified 12212156 OS., as a potential alternate route to using the existing bin/OS.

I've read the bin from my virgin PCM and saved to my desktop, having successfully loaded into TunerPro RT and began sifting through parameters using xdf's from here (another Dimented24x7 contribution).

And this is where I'm hoping to find some assistance. Our application is a non CC turbo 350 with an Atlas transfer case in a 1990 Jeep YJ with custom axles, at least 4.88 gears and ~38in tires. We are planning to drive by cable, delete EGR and keep the remainder of the 5.3L stock (coming from a 2001 Silverado). I'm hoping to get a handle on the base tune before I attempt the first flash.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Yohan Image

If you have an AVT-852 and Dimented24x7's read-write utility, then you can program the 0411 PCM. Dimented24x7's XDF is nothing short of amazing, and it should have what you need to rework the programming for a normally aspirated 2001 5.3L engine. The XDF is missing a lot of the transmission and speedometer parameters, but with a TH350 you probably wouldn't need these.

People often talk about the 2002 operating system (12212156) as if it were the answer to all things. It was widely used, but not exclusively. It was one of 3 operating systems used in light duty trucks that year.

In 2001, operating system 12202088 was widely used initially: by Truck, Camaro, and the Corvette.

Both Trucks and Corvettes received an operating system upgrade in 2001. The Truck upgrade was to operating system 12208322.

Dimented24x7's XDF is compatible with operating system 12202088 (which it was based on) and also with operating system 12208322. With this XDF and TunerPro, you should be able to reprogram your PCM.
