Hardware and software options to read/write .bin files

Post by grimmechanic »

So, I know there's a lot of options as far as read/write hardware and software, and a lot of it depends on what you're working on.

Right now, I have a Continental M3C ECU that I need to read and write .bin files. Looks like my only "off the shelf" option is sold by Bitbox and using a J2534 OBD2 Canbus interface (Mongoose). The J2534 interface is a common device. Other options I've seen are the Alientech Kess and KTAG devices, or their chinese knock-offs.

Any suggestions for open source projects that read/write .bin files?

Any possibility of a plugin for TunerPro to use the J2534 interface?

And, is anyone aware of a plugin that works with TunerPro to read/write .bin files?

So, looks like there's some other hardware/software options. I haven't downloaded any of this software to play with it yet, but soon...

Decompiler, debugger, and reverse engineering software...

WinOLS is a common application for reverse engineering .bin files:

And these guys seem to have taken over the openecu.org project. A lot of coverage for Subaru and Mitsubishi vehicles with a free/open source tuning application and their own J2534 interface:
