Please point me in the right direction

Post by Rally Smith »

O.k I've been reading like crazy for the last several months. I have an Auto Prom setup for my 95 GMC K1500 5.7 automatic. I can get the auto prom and the ALDL connections on line. I have been trying a bunch of the 0D mask files in all sorts of combination. I'm frustrated beyond belief. If someone would be so gracious to send me a link for the combination's to use in order to data log my truck I would be so very grateful. I can data log with what I have but I have no information coming out of it. I pull up the Dash view and it doesn't read anything. I'm guessing that is due to the fact the wrong definition file is being used...... I'm about ready to just say screw it and start shooting! Not really but you get the idea. If someone could just throw me a freaking bone here I would be eternally in your debt.

Thanks in advance.....I hope.

I suppose some pertinent information would be helpful too.
I am running the 16197427, $0D Mask and is there anything else that you need in order to help me??

i am assuming you're using the 0D ADS from the downloads page.

so you can connect to the ECM, but it doesn't stream any information to you? that is odd since if it is connected, you should be seeing values of some kind. does anything show up in either the values or flags tab?

not really. if its connecting, then the ECM is streaming information or the ECM is damaged.

Not the same setup, but on my Old GMC Safari van, I couldn't connect by connecting at the ALDL plug, but I followed the wiring from the ECU and found that there was another plug between the ECU and the ALDL connection. I made up a separate plug and used the connection closer to the ECU and all was good. Never did trace the rest of the wire to see what was wrong. Might be worth a shot to check your wiring to the ecu.

if it was an underhood ECM, it was probably a pass-thru. they probably took the same principle and have done it for the in-cabin ECUs as well. definitely something to look into.

Well I will give that a try in the morning and see what the deal is. Now that I think of it though. I can data log with the ALDL plug with Data Master. So I don't think that there is a plug problem. I will still check but I think it's with the software....

Thanks,

O.k. no luck on the other plug in.
When I data log through the auto prom and record it, how does the replay work? I don't get it! Could someone please step me through the data log process to make sure I'm doing it correctly, please?

i don't know anything about the autoprom, but from my experience, the playback feature has always been hit/miss.

i would just export to CSV. if values show up there, it is logging, but playback isn't working..

For the autoprom settings.

http://www.moates.net/documentation.php ... tion_id=14

Are you reading with scannerpro or tunerpro????

The ve table showing blm when you logging .
The idle ve works at lowe settings on tps.speed(look on your chip settings).
When you drive its Main Fuel Table Off Idle.

I'm using Tuner Pro RT.

Another question: What is the difference between bin files?
BJYB, BJYM, ETC.. What does that stand for?

the four letter codes are refered to as BCCs (broadcast codes). they indirectly describe the tune/whats in the vehicle. you would need a program like tunercats caldata to decode most of them, but i have a rather large list....

Have you set tunerpo rt for the autoprom at tools/preference/aldl/emulation.
Interface =autoprom
Com port number = same as datamaster

I have a ADS that works with aldl cable.

Send me your e adress if you want it.

Sir, yes Sir.

This may seem like a silly question, but where would be a good place to start as far as tuning goes?
Do I need a good Data Log to view the VE, BLM's, etc before I do anything? Has anyone here used Data Master to Data Log and know's how to decifer the info into something useful?

When I have the Auto Prom hooked up to my truck and it is running is my truck running off of the bin file I have installed?

So I got the Auto Prom and ALDL hooked up together. When I went to data log and Emulate together, I pulled up the dash view and the RPM's & TPS were not working. Any Idea on why that would be?

When I was Emulating I tried messing with the closed spark table but nothing happened. I want to try and smooth out my idle first to get the hang of this before I jump in too deep.

So I was trying to Emulate last night and adjust my idle. I timed my truck and I have it set at 2 deg. BTDC. I read somewhere that the ECM should be adjusted to the same as well. I tried adjusting the Initial Spark Advance in Tuner Pro, but nothing changed. So I tried making a big change and nothing happened. I tried adjusting the Initial Spark Advance and nothing changed.

My truck has a stumble in the idle at times and it drives me nuts! Where would be a good place to start on smoothing that out? I have already done a complete tune up on it. Plugs, Wires, Cap & Rotor.

Thanks
