Can't load transmission def. file?

Post by n01tk »

Download A220_OE_31_tRANS_V250 from Tunerpro site to desktop. When running Tunerpro application will not allow me to load this defition. Tried loading other defition files, no problem. Is there something wrong with this file?

I also "saved as" A220 0E 31 Trans v250.adx from the "Download Bin Definition Files" page. I got the same results as you. I tried renaming the file and got the same results. I openned the ADX file in a text editor and compared it to a different known good ADX file and found extra character returns and missing spaces (plus more differences). It looks like the problem is in the ADX file formatting.

Though the file may be of little use as is, the text information within the ADX is still useful. Along with the A218.DS(4L60E) or A220.DS(4L80E) datastream definition file, it can be used to build your own ADX file. Yes I know that means a lot of work.

Maybe someone else out there has a good working copy.

Additional notes.

1) Using a text editer I just looked at another ADX file I use and found the "extra character returns and missing spaces" differences between two known good working ADX files. So those differences don't appear to be the problem. There do seem to be other differences though.

My guess is somewhere in the file TunerPro sees one of those differences at the start of what it considers a "Name" (thus the error message . . . dah!). Both of the "A220 0E 31 Trans1 v250.adx" and "A220 0E 31 Trans2 v250.adx" files seem to have the same issue.

2) Inside the "A220 0E 31 Trans1 v250.adx" file is the following description: A220 Mode 1, Message 0 adx file for 16168625, 16156930, 16196395, and 16197427 PCM using $0E & $31 code.

3) Inside the "A220 0E 31 Trans2 v250.adx" file is the following description: A218 Mode 1, Message 1 adx file for 16168625, 16156930, 16196395, and 16197427 PCM using $0E & $31 code.

The A218 and A220 Datastream definitions may be close enough to be interchangeable but you would want to check. This could also just be a typo.

4) the author of the ADX is "93V8S10" and is listed in the TunerPro User Forum Memberlist. He doesn't have an E-mail address listed in his profile but maybe another member knows how to contact him ????

5) I was able to download and open the "A218 0D Trans1 v250.adx" file (but not "A218 0D Trans2 v250.adx"). This ADX file may be close enough to be able to use as a starting point to build the file you need.

Looks like you may have some homework to do. Best of luck !

Sorry to take so long to get back to this.

I don't know whats up with the trans file, I would have to talk with Mark about it. Currently I'm very busy with work and won't have time to do so for some time.

In the mean time you can download all of my TP5 files over at Moates.
Look for: Advanced E6 0D 0E 31 TP5 v250.zip

These will have the original file names, and should be in working order.

Or send me your email and I will send you the zip file.

Thanks for the reply. I looked and couldn't find any file even closely resembling "Advanced E6 0D 0E 31 TP5 v250.zip" on Moates files web page(s). What folder/directory is this file in ?

"TunerPro XDF files" . . . AHA ! Found it. I thought this file just contained ADX files. I wasn't aware that it also contained the XDF files. I was expecting it to find it under Datastream Definitions or Miscellaneous Uploads.

I had no issues with openning any of the files I checked out. It's always interesting to see how someone else approaches the construction of these files. I always find ideas to add to my own mix. Great work!

I hope n01tk also finds this helpful.

Trans1 adx loaded.

Post by n01tk »

Thanks for all your help guys. The transmission adx for my truck is now loaded into Tunerpro. Will keep you informed to what I find. I have build a small LED indicator which shows what gear ( and lockup ) is being called for. This basically helps determine where the problem exists. If the ECM is calling for 4th ( approperate led configuration) and the truck remains in 3th, the transmission is at fault. If you should be in fourth ( 70 mph ) and the ECM is displaying the LEDS for 3th you have a ECM problem. Now if I can get some time to relax and try some of this. (busy at work, end of year scamble) :D

That is a pretty sweet unit! :D

FYI about the ADX files on TunerPro website. NONE of the ADX files download properly!!! I need to contact Mark and let him know.

I have all ADX files made by Robert Saar and the ones from 98V8S10 in a directory at:

You have to right click and "save as..."

Yes I made that mistake a long time ago... and you pointed me in right direction! :D

In Windows 7 it is right click "Save Target As" which confused me because IIRC in earlier versions that saved the URL. Save As was for a file.

But the adx file that started this thread, even if downloaded properly does not open in TP. Look up a few posts and you will see the error returned by TP. I tried the original that came in the Zip folder and it opens. Even looks the same in edit pad. Now it's happening with another adx file from the Advanced $OD $OE etc... V250 files. But only downloaded from TP. Originals all work fine. Not that it doesn't work hooked up to a vehicle! It won't load into TP.

I just did an hour of testing TP downloads and gave Mark notes to try and figure out what is happeneing.
