this is why there is a "max retard" or "minimum advance" value in the calibration. should advance be commanded below that, it gets trimmed to that value instead.

depending on how badly you make a mistake(changed numbers, but not commited by changing cells or pressing enter), i've found the escape key will cause a cell to revert back to its previous value.

hmm.....

i've used the header function in the ADX to capture some interesting information before without specifically sending out a request for it. the DIC/DIS fuel usage information comes to mind.

i wonder if that would be something useful to exploit here.

in that instance..... the PCM is likely sending out normal mode messages that are causing packet issues with the ABS..... need to command the PCM to stop sending those messages, then ABS communication can continue as expected.

if the PCM is giving weird data, the ABS module will also likely suffer the same problem. it may be the ABS module causing all of the chatter for all i know.

well, basically what would be needed is software to monitor the COM port and at the correct baud rate at that. being 8192 baud, there aren't a lot of them out there and they aren't all self-explanitory as to how to work them either.

all of the 3800 applications are really finicky about the datastream for the reason you stated. some aren't as bad about it(regals, for instance), while others have 6 or 7 modules all chatting on the ALDL line.

it's worked on all of them that i've needed it for..... 88/A1/DF, 94-95 3100 MAF and 93-95 3100 speed-density cars.

i really couldn't speak for the later TBI trucks.

depending on what is meant by relearn, that would require power removal anyways.

you know, that is a distinct possibility.... in which case, you would need to buffer teh register to a RAM byte, then transmit that. good thing 8D has a LOT of free RAM before the stack, IIRC.

most registers read just fine in my experience....

4008, that is the SCI error/status flag register, IIRC.... i would expect that to read as 0 at all times unless some kind of comm issue is happening.

or, should you want to modify the calibration, you could (temporarily) cut down the mode 1 reply down to those 1 or 2 bytes and not suffer some of the overhead of the mode 2/3 requests.

that is 80-160Hz.... you won't get anywhere near that with a full-sized datastream.

you'll need to setup some mode 2 or 3 commands(i can never remember which) and only be able to request 1 or 2 bytes, that MIGHT get you to 80Hz.

getting a cable-failed message while connected to the car is normal.

go ahead and try to connect with the ignition on(not running), engine-running status has never been a requirement for the datastream as far as i know.

i've seen quite a few E only applications... the only ones i can remember off-hand that seem to always have them linked are the 7165 vehicles. i imagine that if someone is looking at that diagram to build their own though..... they're probably willing to cut out the whole seperate portion for the 16...

A055 may be correct. i'm not familiar with the engine RPO that would have been used in the A-bodies.

running is the entire log that has been played(or replayed, keep that in mind) since the table was cleared.

history is by the number of samples that were chosen when the table was setup.
