It has been a while but I needed to use WINALDL to update my ECM using a new computer that has only USB Ports. I wish to pass my experience I had in picking a USB to Serial Adapter that will work with this great program. What I leaned there are two type of drivers used to support USB to Serial Converter. The most common is the Direct Access to a USB Device via a DLL Interface. This will not work for WinALDL and many other programs that were coded to use only a RS232 port. I found a USB driver called Virtual COM Port (VCP) that emulates a standard RS232 device. One Mfg that support the VCP is FtdiChip (www.ftdichip.com). A company that uses this Chip-Set in their USB to Serial Adapter Cable is EasySync Ltd (www.easysync-ltd.com). I hope others and happy tuning!
