as above, want to start messing around with the 4 cylinder M40 and got a stock chip read from a friends car. looking a tuned file so i can see roughly what sort of changes to ignition/fuelling the M40 likes and which maps it actually uses as i cant guinea pig the car like i did with my own M20.
ideally a tuned file for the 0261200387 ECU but any M40 Motronic 1.3 tune would suffice and most likely be interchangeable.
anyone got any tuned bins for M1.3 BMW 318i (M40)

lol barrie.. why would i have wanted to buy something if im only working on a mates car for free?
@ SLF, only seeing your reply here after answering the PM.. im guessing you mean the ECU is labelled as that of a 520i ECU? i have suspected for some time (have not confirmed) that the 4 cylinder motronic 1.3 ECU's could be used in place of a 6 cylinder 1.3 ECU and vice versa providing the chip is changed.. IE fit a 325i chip in a M40 motronic 1.3 ECU and you essentially have a 173 or 380 (native m20b25 1.3 ECU) just with a different sticker on the case. i know you can swap 1.3 ECU's between M20 and M30 variants as the physical hardware is the same so the only actual difference is the chip fitted and subsequently the label on the case. if your M40 has an M20 ECU then that confirms my thoughts of the 4 cyl 1.3 ECU's also being interchangeable and also explains why your car runs fine with that ECU as it would have an M40 chip inside which effectively makes it a 387.

yep, me and my friend also confirmed this, put a m30b35 bin into a chip and used the "m40" ecu successfully with the m30b35 engine, now if i only could get my hands on a tuned m40b18 binDmcL wrote:lol barrie.. why would i have wanted to buy something if im only working on a mates car for free?
