bosch motronic 1.3 chip programming hex or bin????

Post by jstewe34 »

Hey everyone I really like the forum
I own an 525i e34 with m20 ready to do
an s38 transplant soon.... anyways

i have a bunch of programmed bins to try but
i was curious what format i need to have it to program into the chip

when i downloaded the info off the chip it was in intel hex

do i need to change it back to intel hex before I burn

what are the last steps to burn and format the chip???

Thanks everyone!!!

An EPROM will always be binary (0's and 1's) the ECU reads the data from the
EPROM as either highs (1) or lows (0) the strings of zeros and ones are instructions for the main processor to carry out commands or data values for certain operations.
You have probably opened the bin file in a reader that is just converting the binary code into Hex.
You need an EPROM
Programer to burn that file onto an EPROM. You can find reasonably priced programmers on eBay but make sure it will work with your operating system. Many only work with XP or even 98. You can run a virtual machine using VMware if you have win 7 and the newer drivers aren't available .

When you write the file to the blank EPROM it will convert it back to binary for you.

Makes sure you use the correct spec EPROM as they have different access speeds .
