HELP

Post by RL Tilton »

Hi Guys.

I am new and dumb as a rock when it comes to tuning a computer controlled car. I'm used to the old world. Timing, jet metering, high stall and go like hell.

Anyway, I am messing with a GMC 1/2 ton with a 5.7 and automatic. I rebuilt it with vortec heads w/enlarged valves, XFI268 cam, boared out TBI on a Performer RPM manifold. I have been datalogging, sending it in, waiting for the chip, trying it...over and over again. TIRD OF IT!

I KNOW NOTHING! Where can I go to learn the basics, what all this stuff means, what the proper readings should be, etc? I'm stoked and want to make this thing scream!

Thanks

i actually wrote up a GM OBD1 tuning guide recently for W-bodies, but a lot of it would apply...

just click the Tuning OBD1.txt button directly under my post and you'll get a good idea of what you're doing.

Also look over at http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/diy-prom/
Go up to the Tuning guid sticky and read till your eyes bleed.
Don't overlook other catergories of systems because many of the theories still apply but just need to interpet the function to your setup.
Good luck, its worth it to do it yourself.
