Hardware not found or data transfer

I am using version 4.14, have the Moates extreme aldl cable, computer recognizes cable, using 1228253_v03.ads as definition file. Hardware not found shows up in lower left corner of screen and not getting any data. This is after I select the letter D at the top of the screen as instructed, is there some parameters I am missing trying this program? The car is 1989 Buick with 3.8 v6.

"hardware not found" is referring to burning/emulation hardware.

in V4, press F4 to bring up the ALDL setup screen and you should be able to connect to the ECM.
